The Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (DGIST) is located at Daegu city, and is one of Institutes (University) of Science and Technology (IST), sponsored by Korean Ministry of Science and ICT (KAIST, DGIST, GIST and UNIST). DGIST has the Convergence Research Institute of the government-funded institute, providing the best research environment, including excellent researchers and advanced research equipment.

The Department of New Biology is the latest in DGIST's six graduate schools to address the four major global big issues of earth such as health, food, environment and energy through multidisciplinary approaches. Researchers from various backgrounds are working on globally competitive research.

My laboratory is investigating odorant receptors (ORs), the largest subfamily of G Protein-Coupled Receptors (GPCRs), which account for 50% of the drug targets by pharmaceutical companies, in many tissues and cells beyond the nose. In particular, we focus on the function of ORs in tissues and cells related to brain immunity, innate immunity, and metabolism to identify and treat the causes of various brain disorders, infections, inflammatory and metabolic diseases.

In my lab, which requires diverse biological approaches, we welcome anyone who has an interest and passion in various biological backgrounds, particularly in brain science, immunology, microbiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, and cell biology. It's an environment where you can learn and study together.

우리 연구실은 제약회사의 Drug Target의 50%를 차지하는 GPCRs 중에서 가장 큰 Subfamily인 후각수용체를 코가 아닌 조직과 세포에서 연구를 진행하고 있습니다. 특히, 신경면역, 선천면역, 대사와 관련된 조직과 세포에서 그 기능 연구에 집중하고 있으며 이를 통해 관련된 다양한 뇌질환, 감염, 대사질환, 및 염증질환의원인 규명과 치료를 목표로 하고 있습니다.

다양한 생물학적 접근이 요구되는 본 연구실에서는 신경과학, 미생물학, 면역학, 생화학, 분자생물학, 세포학 등 여러 생물학 분야의 전공자를 필요로 하므로, 다양한 생물학 배경에 특히 뇌과학연구에 관한 관심과 열정이 있으신 모든 분을 환영합니다. 함께 배우면서 연구할 수 있는 환경입니다.
